Prior to Vanderbilt, Dr. Levine was the Sara Lawrence Lightfoot Assoc. Professor of Religion at Swarthmore College. Holding a B.A. from Smith College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University, Levine has been awarded grants from the Mellon Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the American Council of Learned Societies. Her numerous publications address Christian Origins, Jewish-Christian Relations, and Sexuality, Gender, and the Bible; she has recorded the Introduction to the Old Testament as well as Great Figures of the Old Testament and Great Figures of the New Testament for the Teaching Company's Great Lectures series.

The title of her lecture is "Ruth."
